If you haven’t explored everything that Audible , Amazon’s audiobook and podcast platform, has to offer, Prime Day is a good time to check it out. When you purchase a subscription, you gain access to thousands of Audible Original audiobooks and podcasts that you can listen to for free. Additionally, Audible Premium Plus members get one credit per month to use on any title in the Audible library, which includes all kinds of popular and cult fiction and nonfiction audiobooks.
If you haven’t tried Audible, now is the time. As an early Prime Day deal, Amazon is offering three full months of Audible entirely for free. There are no strings attached with an Audible membership, so if you ever didn’t want to continue your membership, just cancel before the end of the trial period and you’ll pay nothing.
All members get access to the Plus catalog, which includes Audible Originals audiobooks and podcasts, sleep tracks, meditations and a selection of other audiobooks. However, last year’s sale let you take advantage of Audible Premium Plus membership, which gives you all this plus a monthly credit to use on another premium audiobook of your choice.
Features and benefits of Audible
All Audible members can access the Plus catalog. This includes thousands of audiobooks and podcasts, plus extras you might not expect, such as meditations and sleep stories.
Audible Premium Plus members can also use their monthly credit to get one audiobook that’s not in the Plus catalog.
Audiobooks purchased with credits are yours to download and keep. You’ll still have access to these audiobooks even if you cancel your Audible membership.
WhisperSync lets you seamlessly switch between reading a book on Kindle and listening to the audiobook on Audible.
You can adjust the narration speed on Audible to suit your needs and preferences.
The sleep timer automatically stops Audible playing after a set length of time, which is great if you listen to audiobooks as you fall asleep, but don’t want to miss anything.
Top audiobooks to get started with
We’ve curated a list of some popular audiobooks that you might want to get started with. All of these come from Amazon’s list of bestsellers and come highly recommended. We’ve divided our list into fiction and nonfiction, so it’s easier to find the kind of book you love.
Fiction
“Dune” by Frank Herbert
This sci-fi epic is having a moment due to the movie franchise starring Timothée Chalamet. It’s about the struggle between noble families to rule the planet Arrakis, but also so much more, with ecology, politics and the human condition all playing their parts.
The first book in the Empyrean series, “Fourth Wing” is about a young dragon rider candidate called Violet Sorrengail. It’s a number one New York Times bestseller and has already been optioned for TV, so it’s about to get huge.
“Tress of the Emerald Sea” is an expansion of the Cosmere universe that fans of “The Stormlight Archive” and “Mistborn” will be aware of. However, you don’t need to be a Sanderson fan to enjoy this sweet, fun fantasy novel.
In this funny, heartfelt novel, an elderly man and his young friend head out on an unforgettable road trip. It’s packed with energetic prose and full of hope.
“Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me” by Whoopi Goldberg
Fans of Whoopi Goldberg will love this book, as will anyone who enjoys autobiographies. This intimate memoir gives you insight into the life of this iconic actor — and the family that helped make her who she is.
Expect the other side of family dynamics in this memoir. It’s written by former child actor Jennette McCurdy of “iCarly” fame, detailing the complicated relationship she had with her overbearing mother.
“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” by Mark Manson
A must-read for people who care too much or are sick of trying to be positive. It takes on toxic positivity while aiming to help readers live more happily.
“The Psychology of Money” looks at some of the weird ways people think about money through personal stories. It’s insightful and thought-provoking and might have you looking at money and financial decisions in a new light.
If you’re tired of self-sabotaging and eager to change your ways, this is the book for you. It gives insights and advice on how to better understand your brain and your body to overcome the obstacles in your way.
You only get one Audible credit per month during the free trial, so make sure to browse carefully and select a book you’ll love rather than spending them without thinking.
It’s easy to incorporate Audible into your daily routine. You can listen to audiobooks while commuting, walking, working out or doing chores.
If you buy a book and end up not enjoying it, you can return it within 365 days of buying it. However, you must be an Audible member in good standing, and it may be subject to certain conditions to prevent misuse of the policy.
What happens after the free trial?
After the free trial, you’ll go onto an Audible Premium Plus membership, which costs $14.95 a month. It gives you access to Audible Originals, podcasts, sleep tracks and more, plus one credit to spend each month on an extended library of audiobooks.
However, if you want a cheaper option, you can switch to Audible Plus membership. It costs $7.95 a month and lets you listen to Audible Originals, podcasts, sleep tracks and more without giving you a monthly credit.
You can easily cancel your membership by navigating to the Account Details section and selecting “Cancel Membership.” If you cancel before the end of your free trial period, you won’t be charged.
