MILWAUKEE — Florida delegates to the Republican National Convention said they would be eager to see Sen. Marco Rubio tapped today as Donald Trump’s running mate, though they said that ultimately they would be happy with Trump’s judgment on choosing a No. 2.

“I would be thrilled if it’s Rubio,” said Larry Snowden, a delegate and president of Club 47 USA, a pro-Trump group. But he added that “most if not all of the VP candidates I’m fine with.”

State Rep. Rick Roth said the Florida senator would be “very qualified.” But he added that having Rubio remain in the Senate has its benefits as well, because “Florida would be well represented.”

The vice presidential announcement is expected today.

Angie Wong, a delegate, said she would be intrigued if Rubio were to take the VP slot and Gov. Ron DeSantis were to move to the Senate. Either way, she said, “I trust Donald Trump’s judgment in making his pick,” especially given the assassination attempt. “I think he’s learned to surround himself with protective people.”

U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, the Florida delegation’s breakfast speaker, told reporters after the event that “to have two Floridians on top of the ticket would be incredible,” adding, “No matter who the president picks will be a great fit.”
