Below Deck Med Exclusive Clip: Captain Sandy Discovers ‘Red Flag’ With Bosun Iain Maclean

It’s Monday, which means a brand-new episode of Below Deck Mediterranean is dropping tonight! When Captain Sandy Yawn calls her Bosun Iain Maclean to the bridge in Below Deck Med Season 9, Episode 7, she has a question. “Are you thinking about choosing a Lead Deckhand?” she asks. Little does Sandy know that Iain made that decision before the first charter had even gotten underway; he’d just forgotten to let his Captain know about it. Awkward! Below Deck Med Season 9, Episode 7 clip: Captain Sandy is concerned about Bosun Iain Maclean’s leadership

“I chose Joe [Bradley] as Lead Deckhand in the beginning because he just has experience,” Iain explains. “He’s very good at guiding people. He’s just good at running the team.”

“I didn’t know you chose … I had no idea,” a stunned Captain Sandy responds. “I’ve docked this boat a few times; I’ve watched Nate [ Nathan Gallagher ] work circles around him. Joe’s a great talker, so maybe that’s why you thought that. So, I think you need to reassess experience.”

Without much else to say, Iain simply replies, “Copy.”

“In the future, always run it by me,” Captain Sandy concludes. “Joe does not have the experience when I dock, so Nate’s my bow guy.”

While this brings their chat to an end, Captain Sandy goes even deeper in confessional.

“This is clearly an oversight on Iain’s part. He should’ve informed me before making this decision. Joe, in the last few dockings, I always have [had] to correct him. If Iain would’ve taken the time to read the CVs, he would’ve seen that Nathan has a lot more experience than Joe. That’s a red flag.”
