Remy Ma shared a snippet of her verse from Fat Joe and Cool & Dre’s “Outta Control,” which includes a line regarding the 2007 shooting of her friend .

Although the clip showed Rem looking good enough to totally distract from the line, it seems that her all-too-real-bars left a bad taste in many listeners’ mouths.

The lyrics in question are: “They say I shot my friend over a band, and?/ Imagine what I’ll do to a bi**h I can’t stand.” The latter references her arrest that resulted in her 2008 convictions of assault, possession of an illegal weapon, and attempted coercion for shooting her friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph.

    Listen below.

Remy spent six of her eight-year sentence at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women after “accidentally” shooting Barnes-Joseph following her birthday celebration in New York. Reportedly, Remy and her former “friend” got into an altercation over money that went missing from her purse, which led to shots going off. Barnes-Joseph was hit twice in the stomach.

On August 1, 2014, the Bronx star was released from prison . A year later, the “Conceited” MC took to Instagram to reflect on her time behind bars, and bask in her freedom.

“At this moment 1 year ago I was sitting in a cell wondering when I was coming home,” she captioned an Instagram post at the time . “I had actually gave up hoping that it would even happen. I was supposed to be released July 31, 2014 & I had woke up on August 1, 2014 STILL in prison; I was devastated. Yet, by the grace of my merciful God, I was able to awake the next day at home, in my bed, and post my 1st selfie. At this moment I was so happy but still in shock that I was actually ‘free’.”

In another post she wrote, “Here it is, exactly 1 year later and it feels great to say #ImAround. Thank you to everyone that supported me and helped make my transition back into society a warm, inviting, & loving feeling [kiss emoji] I am truly thankful.”

Sharing her gratitude for her husband Papoose, she continued, “However, I would not have been able to be WHO I am & where I am today had it not been for my loyal, honest, dedicated, & loving husband and best friend @papoosepapoose. He kept me sane; he kept me grounded; he made me believe that it was possible to start again. I love him and cannot express how thankful & honored I am to have such a REAL real one.”

Fast forward to June of this year and Rem is now dealing with her son, Jayson Scott, awaiting his fate after being arrested for the fatal shooting of a man named Darius Guillebeaux. Scott — who’s appeared on reality TV with his famed mother — has now been charged with first and second-degree murder, reckless endangerment and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

According to prosecutors, Scott is believed to have been hired to murder Guillebeaux, 47, in June 2021. He’s also been accused of firing at the victim for a second time, as his accomplice allegedly let off two shots, as well. If convicted, the 23-year-old could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Unable to say much due to legal reasons , Remy Ma maintained her son’s innocence and stated to TMZ : “We stand by Jayson’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove Jayson’s innocence.”

“As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything — as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case,” she added.

As the 44-year-old’s son could possibly live his life behind bars soon, it may not have been the right time to drop bars about her own shooting case.
