I was nearly fired from my job after a ‘rude’ driver blocked my driveway – I had to make a risky move to finally get out

A DRIVER has nearly lost their job dodging a thoughtless parking job that blocked their driveway.

In an anonymous Facebook post, the furious driver said a Hyundai Kona was illegally parked in their driveway, and they couldn’t get out.

“This man blocked me from getting out of my driveway for 10 minutes,” the anonymous driver wrote in the post.

They attached a picture of the Kona SUV parked at the foot of their driveway.

They alleged the driver was a food delivery worker and was dropping groceries off at a neighbor’s house.

At first, they said they “nicely” asked the delivery worker to move the car because they would be late.

But the driver refused to move after two reminders, the anonymous driver alleged.

The Facebook post alleged the driveway owner was under intense pressure to get to work on time.

It takes 12 minutes to drive from the home to the office.

The driver initially noticed the allegedly incorrectly parked Kona 20 minutes before their shift started.

They added that their job is stringent about timeliness. The office does not have a grace period for late employees.

Time was ticking for them to get to work, or they worried they would get fired.

They claim that 10 minutes had passed before they had to make a riskier move.

Finally, the driver said they had to yell at the grocery delivery worker to move their car.

“I cannot believe that someone could be so rude and inconsiderate,” they said.

The driver said they nearly got into an accident as they sped to work.

The U.S. Sun could not verify the authenticity of the driver’s post.

    Laws on Blocking a Sidewalk

Generally, it's illegal to block the sidewalk when parking in a driveway

In most states, it is illegal to block the sidewalk, even partially, when parking in a driveway. Many states have laws that give the responsibility of due care of pedestrians to drivers.

For example, Oregon law states that unless complying with a traffic stop by a police officer, construction detour, or traffic sign, it is illegal to park on a sidewalk.

Currently, there are no states that permit blocking a sidewalk with a vehicle, due to safety concerns for children, the elderly, or disabled persons being forced to walk onto an active street.

    BLOCKED DRIVEWAY RULES

It is illegal to block driveways in all 50 US states.

Driveways are essential access points for emergency workers. If a resident needs immediate care, blocked driveways can restrict access.

Several drivers have complained to local authorities as more cars park on increasingly congested city streets and block their driveways.

Drivers in Denver have asked the city council to enact parking restrictions in their neighborhood, for example.

“I’ve had them park in my driveway temporarily,” Christine Handel told her local CBS affiliate, KCNC-TV , as cars continually parked at the foot of her driveway.

    “It’s extremely disruptive.”
