Brandy Norwood and Paolo Montalbán keep Cinderella’s legacy going with the help of Malia Baker in Disney’s Descendants: The Rise of Red .

The film picks up years after the fairytale wedding of Cinderella, played by Brandy Norwood , and Prince Charming, played by Paolo Montalbán. The couple continues to live blissfully while raising their daughter, Chloe, played by Malia Baker. On the side of town, Cinderella’s former childhood friend, the Queen of Hearts, played by Rita Ora, is determined to raise her rebellious daughter, Red, played by Kylie Cantrall, to rule the empire with an iron fist riddled with fear and destruction.

The Queen of Hearts still harbors resentment from her past, so when the mother-daughter duo is invited to Auradon, she incites a coup that causes Red and Chloe to go back in time to change the trajectory of their future. Despite the daughters’ polar opposite personalities and life experiences, they come together to give a lesson in the power of kindness. The film dissects how childhood events can dictate who you become. Perhaps if the Queen of Hearts was treated better, she’d grow up to be nicer.
