GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A pilot and his student are OK after a plane crash Sunday in northern Michigan.

The crash happened a little after 3 p.m. on Sunday in Rose Lake Township, about 10 miles northeast of Reed City.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says a 57-year-old man was flying with a 19-year-old student when they tried to land on a grassy field. While descending, the pilots overshot their clearance.

“As the pilot tried to climb in the air, the plane lost power and ultimately crashed into the swamp,” investigators said in a press release .

Both the pilot and the student suffered minor injuries but were able to walk away from the crash scene.

The exact cause of the crash is ongoing. The sheriff’s office is working alongside the Federal Aviation Administration. Osceola County EMS, Leroy-Rose Lake Fire and Rescue and Meceola Central Dispatch also coordinated in the response to the crash.
