    Cooling Centers opened due to high heat index Monday

    FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As temperatures rise to dangerous levels around the area, a number of local agencies and organizations are opening cooling centers to allow residents a chance to get out of the oppressive heat.

    In Vigo County, Reach Services has announced that the Pathways Day Center located at 504 S. 15th Street will be extending their hours. The group said limited laundry services would be available. Attendees can also utilize the showers at the center. Pets are also welcomed.

    A Pathways representative said there’s no definite end time set for today’s services, saying the group will monitor the situation for when the temperature begins to break. The representative said they would expect that to be around 7-8 p.m.

    In Clark County there will be a number of centers available throughout the week.

    “If you or someone you know is in need of a cooling center, please contact Clark County Dispatch at 217-826-3279 and they will be able to assist you,” Clark County 911 posted to Facebook.

    In Edga r County a number of centers have also been activated for the week.
