    Tygart Lake marina closing early due to low water levels

    GRAFTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Tygart Lake is closing earlier than usual this season.

    In a Facebook post , Tygart Lake said Monday that “unusually low water levels” are affecting the lake, so officials have decided to close the marina early. According to the post, the season closure will be on Sunday, July 28.

    All boats and jet skis must be removed by that date.

    “Your understanding and prompt action are crucial in helping us manage this situation effectively,” the post said.

    According to water data from the U.S. Geological Survey , there has been no measurable precipitation since July 5, and the water level has continued to drop—a total of almost four feet since July 8. As of Monday, the lake is 13.52 feet below its normal summer level and has fallen more than 6 inches in the past 24 hours, lake officials said in another post .

    Much of West Virginia is under drought conditions, with streams across the state running much below the normal level, according NOAA’s National Integrated Drought Information System .
