HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – During their regularly scheduled commission meeting on Thursday, July 11, the Hancock County commissioners unanimously approved the resignation of Paul Zuros from his role as the county administrator effective July 19.

Zuros held the position as the county administrator since 2022.

In a phone interview with 7News, Commissioner President Jeff Davis, says that Zuors is pursuing another job opportunity.

“We are looking for a new county administrator and that person handles the day-to-day operations of the county commission. We are looking for a person who is capable of working well with other elected officials and has a good general knowledge of government operations at local, state and federal [levels].”

Davis says Zuros was with the county for a short time, “but he did a great job for Hancock County, and he is going to be missed. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Commissioner Paul Cowey echoed the words of Davis saying, Zuors did a great job for the county, and he will be missed.

“He’s done a great job for us, and we are sorry to see him go. I think Paul is going to do a great job wherever he goes, he did a great job for us. I know he is looking forward to his new ventures. We are taking applications for a new county administrator and will be doing some interviews in the upcoming weeks.”

The biggest sentiment commissioner Eron Chek wants to convey about Zuors and his service to the county is this: “I said this at last week’s commission meeting as well, but he has the perfect temperament to be a county administrator.”

Chek added that being a county administrator is “no small job” because they are the lead person that affects the health and development of the community.

“It will be tough to find a replacement, but we are definitely looking for a person with the right temperament to fill that position.”

Zuors helped Hancock County with nearly $1 million in grant funding that helped build a new health department and replace the roof on the courthouse according to Chek.

She says the county is undergoing a lot of improvements and the commission wants to see continued developments for the county.

Chek says being a county administrator is a special opportunity since there are only 55 positions in the state.

“It’s a huge opportunity. County administrators also help the state plan the celebrations for the country’s 250 th anniversary and planning for that has already started. So, the next Hancock County administrator will be the only person in our county to be a part of that planning. It’s a special opportunity,” Chek said.

Applications for Hancock County Administrator will be posted to the county website or can be picked up at the county commission officer on the third floor of the Hancock County Courthouse.
