    Fundraising event will help build new animal shelter in Nottoway

    NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Central Virginians are invited to an event in Nottoway County which is raising funds to build a new animal shelter for the county.

    Proceeds from the Nottoway Cares Fundraiser, which will take place on Saturday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will go towards building a new animal shelter in the town of Burkeville.

    The event will feature live music, food and drinks, vendors, raffles, an auction and more. The event will take place at the Inn at Blackstone, which is located at 707 4th Street in the town of Blackstone.

    The event is organized by Nottoway Cares, a volunteer nonprofit with the stated goal of helping Nottoway County plan for a build a new animal shelter.

    According to Nottoway Cares’ website, the county’s current animal shelter is 30 years old, is just over 1,000 square feet and consists of just ten indoor kennels with no air conditioning or bathroom.
