UC campus protests would be immediately removed under proposed guidance

University of California Regents and campus leaders are laying the groundwork to address growing calls for a more consistent way to handle protests.

The UC President Michael V. Drake is working with administrators on a university-wide approach to dealing with demonstrators who break the rules.

One senior administrator, who spoke to the Los Angeles Times on the condition of anonymity, said the guidelines will assume the immediate removal of any encampment.

The L.A. Times also reported state legislators will pay close attention to the UC’s actions and that $25 million in state funding is being withheld from UC until Drake delivers a report on his efforts by Oct. 1.

Students must be notified by the beginning of their fall term of the rules around discrimination policies, free speech activities, and students' codes of conduct.
