It's difficult to buy into the Washington Commanders turning around the franchise after so many years of disaster under previous owner Dan Snyder.

But let's face it... Josh Harris' ownership group keeps making big-time moves that have us feeling more and more confident that a new era for the Commanders is indeed in the horizon.

The latest of these moves was reported on Monday morning by The Athletic's Ben Standing, who revealed the Commanders are hiring former NFL general manager Scott Fitterer as a personnel executive.

Fitterer was most recently with the Carolina Panthers, his lone GM job yet, which he held for three seasons. However, he was a part of the Seattle Seahawks front office from 2001 to 2020. In 2020, he was promoted to vice president of football operations after almost two decades of being co-director of player personnel.

Additionally, he was director of college scouting for the Seahawks from 2011 to 2014. The ties to Dan Quinn, now the Commanders head coach, are obvious.

The Commanders front office has been built from the ground up this year, with the biggest addition being GM Adam Peters, who is already making fans love him . New faces on the team's leadership group include assistant GM Lance Newmark (previously with the Detroit Lions), senior VP of football operations and team's top negotiator Brandon Sosna, and David Blackburn as director of player personnel.

The Commanders are also kicking off 2024 with a revamped roster and coaching staff led by Quinn, DC Joe Whitt Jr. and OC Kliff Kingsbury, with the biggest change being the obvious one: QB Jayden Daniels will be taking over the offense.

In an NFC East that features Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys (at least for now) and Jalen Hurts with the Philadelphia Eagles, Daniels will need to step up if the Commanders are to get to where they want to go. Of course, Commanders fans should practice patience on the way there. This is a long-term project and the front office likely understands it.
