    Oneida County Sheriffs looking for deputies

    ORISKANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — The Oneida County Sheriffs’ Office is looking for new deputies, according to Sheriff Robert Maciol.

    Maciol announced on Monday, July 12 that the sign-up period for the next civil service entrance exam is now open for deputy sheriffs in the patrol unit.

    Applicants interested in the exam must be at least 19 years old but no older than 35 and reside in Oneida, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oswego, or Otsego Counties. Military commitments of up to six years will be considered when determining the age requirement.

    Applicants must also possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Potential candidates will be subject to a background check, as well as psychological and medical evaluations. Candidates will be subjected to a written test, as well as a physical fitness screening test.

    If hired to be a sheriff’s deputy, qualified candidates will start their field training at a salary of just over $50,000 a year. Once their field training is completed, the salary advances to just over $60,000 a year, with health insurance and New York State Retirement benefits included.

    The signup period is open until Friday, August 9 and the exam will be given on Saturday, September 28. For more information on the exam or the application process, you are encouraged to contact the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office’s Community Affairs Office at 315-765-2224.
