George Clooney Might Be Feeling the Impact of Hollywood's View on Aging

Women in Hollywood often talk about how ageism has impacted their careers , but the men rarely chime in because it affects them less. However, there may be one A-list star who might be feeling a bit competitive ahead of his latest film coming out next month with another well-known movie star.

George Clooney might not be feeling like “the Sexiest Man Alive anymore,” but he’s reportedly trying “to keep up with” his Wolfs co-star, Brad Pitt, according to a Closer Weekly source. The insider claimed that Clooney has “real anxiety about how he looks on camera and what age range he can convincingly play” these days. “George is obsessed with that stuff and made sure that the jokes in Wolfs that reference his age are self-deprecating – but not TOO self-deprecating ,” they added.

The 63-year-old actor seems to be OK with his graying hair though, and he told BBC’s Radio 4 in 2015 that he wasn’t interested in plastic surgery . “For me, it isn’t an issue or an option,” the Good Night, and Good Luck star said. “I don’t think it would make much sense, quite honestly. … I’ve seen it happen and … particularly on men, I don’t think it really works well. I actually think it makes you look older.”

Kate Hudson chimed in about the topic in December 2022 to Byrdie, sharing that men rarely get asked about the subject while revealing, “They’re just as worried about aging.” She added, “The focus is much more from the outside than it is from the inside, I think, which says a lot about how we’re programmed because the only time I think about aging is when I’m asked about how I think about aging.”

Ben Affleck was criticized for his appearance on Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady when social media users joked that he was “ hard launching a new face ” or he was “fresh from a facelift.” Women don’t want to be criticized for their looks and neither do men — if we don’t support the privilege of growing older, how can the stigma ever go away? If it’s affecting A-listers, the rest of us don’t stand a chance. It’s time to do better!
