    Study: More than 1 in 5 Virginians making less than $17 per hour

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A study by Oxfam America shows that more than one in five Virginians are making less than $17 per hour.

    According to the study, 21.6% of Virginians are making less than $17 per hour — a total of 989,753. Of that group, 43.5% are single parents.

    Virginia has had a minimum wage of $12 since it was raised from the federal minimum of $7.25 in 2020 . Virginia is one of 30 states whose minimum wage is above the federal minimum.
