Everyone Made The Same Joke After Ex-MLB Pitcher Revealed Comeback Plans

Former All-Star pitcher Noah Syndergaard hasn't given up on pitching in the majors again. But baseball fans on social media appeared to strongly doubt he will be able to return after MLB insider Jon Heyman detailed Syndergaard's plan for a comeback.

Heyman tweeted Monday that Syndergaard "plans to revamp things, lose some weight and shoot for a comeback next season." The right-hander hasn't pitched at all during the 2024 season.

Last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians, Syndergaard recorded a 6.50 ERA and 1.387 WHIP across 88.2 innings.

In reaction to Syndergaard's comeback plans, X (formerly Twitter) users such as Martino Puccio made jokes about the right-hander being significantly out of shape and over the hill.

"So this is him????" Puccio wrote as a caption to a picture of the character Thor from The Avengers: Endgame.

Syndergaard was nicknamed "Thor" during his prime because of his long, blonde hair.

Another X user had a similar joke, arguing he had just as good of a chance to lose weight and debut in the MLB next season.

"I also plan to revamp things, lose weight, and shoot for an MLB debut next year," The Skippers View wrote. "Feel like we have similar chances at making it."

Another user argued the right-hander has probably been eating well and questioned whether Heyman benefitted in some way for mentioning Syndergaard's planned comeback bid.

"What's he been up to this year? Eating well and hanging out? Did he pay you for this update?"

Syndergaard was one of the top up-and-coming MLB pitchers nearly a decade ago. He helped lead the New York Mets to the World Series in 2015 and then made the National League All-Star team in 2016.

But injuries slowed Syndergaard beginning in 2017, and he then missed the entire pandemic-shortened 2020 season because of Tommy John surgery.

Syndergaard only continued to decline after the surgery. He hasn't received any MLB opportunities this year.
