(The Center Square) – It won't be North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum or U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, but former President Donald Trump's pick for vice president could be announced this afternoon.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., were told they were not selected, according to multiple media reports .

That puts a lot of attention on Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, ahead of the announcement, but no certainty. Trump could announce Vance or someone whose name hasn't been widely circulated.

Less than two days after surviving an assassination attempt, Trump will announce his choice in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention. Trump has teased the announcement for weeks.

On Sunday, Trump confirmed that his convention plans were on track.

"Based on yesterday's terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a 'shooter,' or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform.
