It's all part of her brand. Dolly Parton has made a name for herself outside of her music for her larger-than-life personality and attire. With hair that could get her into heaven, her iconic "assets" and glittery glam looks, you can spot Dolly Parton from a mile away. However, her looks are part of the reason she is so successful. Aside from hard work and great work, creating a brand as recognizable as hers has led to decades of success. She knew exactly what she was doing, leaning into her over-the-top looks and often ignoring peers who told her to
tone it down . During a fairly awkward 1981 interview, the talk show host noted that her "dramatic looking" appearance was part of her success and questioned whether the over-the-top tight outfits made her uncomfortable. Parton gives the perfect answer, as she was and still is beyond comfortable with her appearance. "It started early with the look as far as the hair, and the makeup and the tight clothes, and all of that. Feel uncomfortable doing this? No, I like them. I'd feel uncomfortable without them. You'd be uncomfortable if I didn't have them on, wouldn't you?" Parton bursts into laughter, knowing she made the man interviewing her uncomfortable. Although, he quickly fires back: "Well, I don't know, could we find out?"
Awkward, kinda creepy, but also pretty smooth, right? The two laugh briefly before she wraps up her thoughts on how good she feels in her skin. "But no, I enjoy it. I'm real comfortable with my image; it's something I've...it's as outgoing as I am and as outrageous, so it seems to fit somehow." Parton's look might be over the top, but her personality on and off camera are the same. So, while she might do up the glitz and glamour, her heart is the same in and out of character. Forty-two years later, Dolly Parton is still the same woman from this interview when she stepped out in a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader uniform . Talk about always being comfortable in your skin. Dolly Parton is truly a national treasure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCSSuBu17gE
