Incumbent David G. Valadao (R) and Rudy Salas (D) are running in the general election for California’s 22nd Congressional District on November 5, 2024. The election is a rematch from 2022, when Valadao defeated Salas 51.5% to 48.5%, becoming one of 14 Republicans to win in a district that President Joe Biden (D) won in 2020.

Valadao said he is running because the district needs strong and practical leadership in Congress. He said, “I’ll continue to be an independent member of Congress who will stand up to the divisive partisanship in Washington D.C., get things done to grow our local economy, and deliver more water for our farmers and communities.” Valadao campaigned onproviding clean water to the district, supporting farmers and ranchers, and protecting veteran services.

Salas served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2022. He is campaigning on lowering drug costs, increasingpublic safety funding, clean water infrastructure, and expanding veterans’ and workers’ rights. Salas has also focused on increasing Democratic voter turnout. “Our job now is to mobilize a coalition of our friends, families, and Valley neighbors who are ready for a member of Congress who fights and delivers for them,” he said.

Four major race ratings outlets rated this race as either Toss-up or Tilt Republican as of July 9, 2024.
