The sound of an ice cream truck brings back all kinds of nostalgic memories, especially on those endless summer days. One Golden Retriever named Freddie agrees! He's a huge fan of the ice cream man and the yummy treats he brings along.

A July 14, 2024 TikTok video shared by @freddiethegolden shows the very excited Golden jumping for joy when the ice cream trucks comes around. Watch to see Freddie get his very own pup cup!

The video captioned, "Freddie sure does LOVE the ice cream truck!" shows Freddie watching as the ice cream truck arrives outside. When Mom opens the door, the Golden sprints toward the parked truck before patiently sitting and barking in excitement as his special "Yo! Dawg" Italian Ice pup cup is made just for him.

Freddie even gets the opportunity to go inside the truck where he gets VIP treatment, eating his pup cup snack with his driver friend. The deserving pup then watches as the truck drives away, until next time. It looks like the best day ever and many of Freddie's followers agree.

"Freddie knows what he wants!!!" one person wrote. "Make sure that little cutie gets whatever he wants," another added. "Mommy the ice cream man is here. Hurry. Been there," another said.

Is Ice Cream Safe For Dogs?

With the temperatures rising, you might want to give your pup something cool to snack on. Freddie's pup cup was made from Italian Ice but is it —or any ice cream—safe? Dr. Jerry Klein, Chief Veterinary Officer for the American Kennel Club advises it might be best to skip the frozen dairy treats because "dairy products top the list of food intolerances for dogs," and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.

If you decide to opt for a small cone or pup cup anyway, only choose vanilla as other flavors like chocolate can be toxic. Dr. Klein also notes that xylitol is an ingredient often added to frozen yogurts and popsicles, and this artificial sweetener is highly toxic and potentially fatal.

Other things you can give your dog instead include fresh, plain yogurt, or frozen green beans or fruits. If you're feeling chef-like, puree melon and put into ice cube trays to pop out later, You can also do the same by combining pumpkin or sweet potato with plain yogurt to freeze and give your dog as needed.

Freddie is such a good boy, an Italian ice once in awhile seems fine. These are the memories summer's made for!
