President Joe Biden criticized former President Donald Trump 's vice presidential pick for his 2024 ticket, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).

"Here’s the deal about J.D. Vance. He talks a big game about working people," Biden wrote on X shortly after the announcement Monday afternoon.

"But now, he and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families while pushing more tax cuts for the rich," the president added.

Trump announced the Hillbilly Elegy author as his vice presidential nominee on his social media platform Truth Social Monday afternoon.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump said .

The Biden-Harris 2024 campaign shared a longer statement slamming Vance as having "a reputation as one of the most far-right extremists in Washington."

"Vance has repeatedly attempted to whitewash the political violence that occurred on January 6," Biden-Harris 2024 Chairwoman Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.

O'Malley Dillon added the Ohio Republican will "bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people."

"Over the next three and a half months, we will spend every single day making the case between the two starkly contrasting visions Americans will choose between at the ballot box this November: the Biden-Harris ticket who’s focused on uniting the country, creating opportunity for everyone, and lowering costs; or Trump-Vance — whose harmful agenda will take away Americans’ rights, hurt the middle class, and make life more expensive — all while benefiting the ultra-rich and greedy corporations,” the Biden campaign said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about the pick of Vance at the press briefing Monday afternoon.

"I'm not going to politicize this moment," she said in response. "We are not going to politicize this moment. It is wrong to politicize this moment."

Vance had ripped Biden on Saturday when the Trump was almost assassinated at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"Today is not just some isolated incident. The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs," Vance said in a social media post.

"That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination," Vance continued.
