    First Responder Shelter

VICTORIA COUNTY, Texas - In the event of a disaster, shelters are available for the general public, but no

thing has been provided for local, state, and federal first responder personnel. However, that will be changing.

Victoria County officials have received funds from the Hazard Mitigation Grant to construct a shelter for housing first responders in a safe environment during and after a disaster, such as a hurricane.

Similar to the safe room domes used by the public, the first responder shelter will be designed to withstand the destructive winds associated with tornadoes and hurricanes. The shelter will be constructed at the Victoria Regional Airport. The job order will soon be put out to bid, with construction expected to begin shortly after, and completion anticipated by 2026.
