Man now charged with murder after family member shot in head in Darlington County

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A man facing charges in a Darlington County shooting has now been charged with murder after the victim died at a hospital over the weekend, authorities said on Monday.

William McKenzie Sheffield is now charged with murder. He was initially charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, three counts of pointing and presenting a firearm and manufacturing or distribution of methamphetamine.

Kathy Elaine Sheffield was charged with obstruction of justice.

Deputies responded Friday to Old Millpond Road for a “shooting incident.” Deputies said an altercation led to a family member being shot in the head and killed.
