Paul McCartney has many upbeat hits to his name, but he isn’t afraid to let his emotions shine through at times. Find three McCartney songs that are liable to bring a tear to your eye, below.

3 Paul McCartney Songs That Will Bring a Tear To Your Eye

    1. “Little Willow”

It can be hard to weather the obstacles in one’s life. They can shake us in unspeakable ways, flip our lives upside down, and change us forever. In the face of those obstacles, McCartney offers us some solace with “Little Willow.” The lyrics are peace incarnate, lulling the listener into a state of understanding and acceptance. Despite (or maybe because of that), there is something very poignant about this song. So poignant, in fact, that the listener might be moved to tears.

Sleep little willow, peace going to follow

    Time will heal your wounds

Grow to the heavens, now and forever

    Always came too soon

    2. “The End Of the End”

McCartney imagines what life will be like when he’s gone in “The End Of the End.” He hopes others will remember the good times, tell jokes, and revel in his memory. Despite McCartney’s hope, it’s sad to think about the day that Macca will leave us.

On the day that I die I’d like jokes to be told

And stories of old to be rolled out like carpets

    That children have played on

And laid on while listening to stories of old

    3. “Here Today”

“Here Today” is McCartney’s ode his late songwriting partner, John Lennon. It wasn’t just his Beatles bandmates that mourned the loss of Lennon. The whole world felt the tinges of grief after his murder. McCartney gives us the perfect song to help us work through that pain with “Here Today.”

Well, knowing you, you’d probably laugh

And say that we were worlds apart

If you were here today, ooh

    Here today
