Rashida Jones , daughter of the legendary Quincy Jones, found herself in the middle of a public feud with Tupac Shakur back in the ‘90s. This clash was ignited by Tupac’s harsh criticism of her father’s relationships with white women, which he voiced in an interview. Read what Rashida had to say about her feud with the late rapper inside.

Rashida doesn’t play when it comes to her family. She has historically been fiercely protective of her family and had no issue clapping back at Tupac’s comment towards her father Quincy Jones. She penned an open letter to Tupac, defending her father’s legacy and calling out the rapper for his divisive comments.

Despite the initial tension, the feud took a better turn. Once Tupac started dating Rashida’s sister Kidada Jones, he later apologized. The rapper acknowledged the impact of his words and expressing regret for the hurt they caused. This apology was a significant moment, highlighting the potential for reconciliation even in the face of public disputes. Rashida’s response to Tupac’s apology showed her grace and willingness to move forward, emphasizing the importance of understanding and unity over conflict.

Rashida recently spoke to the New Yorker in a profile sharing that her perspective has shifted since her initial comments in the ’90s.

“Yeah, I was so mad. It was a new perspective to me. I kind of understand the nuance more now that I’m older. It just felt like a completely unwarranted attack,” she told the publication .

She added, “It just felt like a completely unwarranted attack. My dad doesn’t work for the government. He’s a music producer. How he chooses to live his life and who he loves is just his own business, and I’ve always felt this way.”

This incident is a testament to Rashida’s strength and her unwavering commitment to her family. It also underscores the broader themes of race and relationships in America, topics that both Rashida and her father have navigated throughout their careers.

Their relationship improved after Tupac began dating Kidada. Once Tupac ran into Kidada in New York and approached her, mistaking her for Rashida.

“It resolved itself really nicely, because when I met him, he immediately apologized to me, immediately apologized to my dad,” Rashia said. “We sat down and had a really good conversation about it, and then he was family.”

Rashida continues to be a prominent figure in entertainment, known for her acting, writing, and directing. Her latest project is a drama series with Apple TV+ titled “Sunny.” The series stars Jones as Suzi Sakamoto, who while living in Kyoto, Japan, her life is turned upside down after her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As consolation, she receives Sunny, a domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company.

The story of Rashida and Tupac’s relationship is a powerful example of how personal and cultural conflicts can be addressed and resolved with integrity and respect. In the New Yorker article, Rashida talks more about her thoughts on humanity and AI’s progression to the world.
