Timothée Chalamet is starring in a new A24 movie about ping pong, titled Marty Supreme, which is being directed by Josh Safdie.

Marty Supreme will see the Wonka and Dune: Part 2 star play Marty Reisman, a professional ping pong player who started playing table tennis at age 12.

After playing as a hustler for bets and prize money in Manhattan, Reisman went on to win a number of different ping pong titles at World Table Tennis Championship events. He eventually performed a comedy table tennis routine alongside Douglas Cartland for the Harlem Globetrotters and published an autobiographical novel in 1974. Reisman passed away in 2012 at the age of 82.

A24 has released the first poster for Marty Supreme in an X post, which can be viewed below:

What else do we know about Marty Supreme?

Per Variety, Marty Supreme is written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein. Safdie and Bronstein are also producing the film alongside Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.

Chalamet previously teased that he was working on a mysterious project related to ping pong. He told Josh Horowitz in a video uploaded to MTV’s YouTube page in December 2023 that the upcoming project he was working on was about “ping pong, I can say that.” When asked if it was a Balls of Fury reboot or something in that vein, Chalamet said, “No, no, no, no. Something way different. Way different.”

Josh Safdie previously co-directed a handful of movies with his brother, including 2017’s Good Time with Robert Pattinson and 2019’s Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler. He was working on another movie with Sandler; however, the status of the film remains unclear at this time as it was said to be “on pause” in January 2024.

A release date for Marty Supreme has not yet been announced by A24.
