Earlier in the offseason, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer spoke on 98.5 The Sports Hub about how outdated things were in the New England Patriots organization. Specifically, Breer mentioned how small the staff was under Bill Belichick compared to a team like the Philadelphia Eagles, who have neatly a 53-man roster of coaches supporting Nick Sirianni.
With Jerod Mayo replacing Belichick this offseason, there were real questions about what the coaching staff may look like by the time training camp starts. At this point, the Patriots currently list 30 coaches/assistants under Mayo for the 2024 season.

In 2023, Belichick's last season as head coach of the team, he had 20 coaches/assistants.
This change should allow Mayo to have less on his plate as a first-time head coach, which, as former Patriots safety Devin McCourty recently remarked, could be an issue.
"I think the thing that's going to be the biggest transition for him, and [where] he'll continue to grow, is when he said, 'The amount of stuff I do that has nothing to do with football is crazy,'" McCourty stated on the " Rise and Schein " podcast. "I think every new head coach would tell you the same story. You don't realize how many things Bill Belichick used to handle and do for 24 years as a head coach, and now you're thrust into that role."
Now, Mayo will have extra help, and that should make things easier for him in 2024 and beyond.
