‘Smash,’ NBC’s Infamously Campy Broadway Trainwreck, Is Finally Available To Stream

Smash made its NBC debut over a dozen years ago now, instantly blurring the lines between camp classic and unmitigated trainwreck. The plug was mercifully pulled on this Broadway musical dramedy after just two seasons — and one Emmy win! — but thanks to the magic of the internet, the show still retains a devoted cult following . There’s even a musical being made from the series (how meta!) that is set to premiere on Broadway during the 2024-2025 season.

The series is filled with a talented cast, many of which got their start in the Broadway world. Bombshell ’s writing team of Julia Houston and Tom Levitt are played by Emmy winner Debra Messing and two-time Tony winner Christian Borle . The main feuding Bombshell actresses are Ivy Lynn, played by Tony nominee Megan Hilty , and Karen Cartwright, played by American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee . Other cast members include Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston as producer Eileen Rand and The Morning Show star Jack Davenport as director Derek Wills. Other Broadway stars in the series include Tony winner Leslie Odom Jr . as ensemble member Sam Strickland, Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan as composer Jimmy Collins, and five-time Tony nominee Brian d’Arcy James as Julia’s husband Frank.
