TULARE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – At least three fires have started in the Sequoia National Forest over the weekend due to lightning storms, the U.S. Forest Service announced.

Officials say the Trout Fire, Acorn and Packsaddle are all burning within the Sequoia National Forest.

The Trout Fire is the largest of the group and was approximately 500 acres as of Monday morning, according to officials. It is burning in the Trout Creek drainage within the Dome Land Wilderness in Tulare County. Officials say it is south of Sherman Pass Road and approximately two miles southwest of Bald Mountain Lookout.

Fire restrictions now in place for Sequoia National Forest

Fire personnel say due to the remote location and difficult terrain aircraft are being deployed to drop retardant and slow the fire’s spread.

The Packsaddle Fire is approximately 46 acres and burning four miles east of the Fairview Campground located within Tulare County. Officials say aircraft has been used to surround the fire. The air support has slowed the fire enough to give firefighters on the ground, the opportunity to build control lines around most of the perimeter.

The Forest Service says the Acorn Fire in Kern County is approximately 7 acres and burning south of the Breckenridge road near the Breckenridge Campground. Forward progress has been stopped and crews will work diligently today to add containment with the goal of moving the fire into a patrol status without the threat of escape.
