Following the acquisitions of ex-Charlton captain George Dobson , goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, and centre-back Lewis Brunt, Wrexham has further strengthened its team by signing Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan. Burton, a goalkeeper, has joined on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle and has inked a contract that will keep him at Wrexham until the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper also shared the pitch with Paul Mullin at Cambridge United during the 2020-21 season. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson believes Burton "complements" the other goalkeepers in the squad, and Burton expressed his excitement about playing for the Welsh team.
"I spoke to the manager, and he told me about the project, and it definitely was the place I wanted to come and play my football," Burton revealed to the club's website. "The timing of signing couldn't be better. It's the perfect time for me to come in and meet all of the lads on the tour and it will be a nice way to settle myself in."
To strengthen the defense, Revan has signed a contract until 2027. He first made it to the Aston Villa first-team squad in 2021 before being loaned out to Grimsby Town.
The 21-year-old, who hopped from club to club on loan, finally settled at Rotherham United in 2023 before making the move to Wrexham. He's all geared up to tackle any hurdles that manager Parkinson and his coaching squad throw at him, aiming to live up to the season's high hopes.
"I'm delighted to get the deal done," an excited Revan expressed. "I can't wait to get started and show everyone what I can do. It's going to be a great going to the USA and Canada. I'll hopefully get some minutes and the opportunity to impress and get my season started.
"I want to help take the club as high up the table as we can and add both goals and assists to my game and also the team's."
Revan's signing, along with Burton's, marks the latest efforts by the club to kick off the new season with a bang. Manager Parkinson noted that while the team is still scouting for talent, nothing is set in stone.
"I don't want to put a number on how many more signings. We are just looking at the players in training and piecing the squad together," he commented.
"It's like a jigsaw and you want to get that right; make sure we have got that strength in depth in all areas with the quality we are going to need in a very competitive division."
Parkinson has shipped out goalie Luke McNicholas to Rochdale on a season-long loan, making space for new blood Revan and Burton. The move is aimed at giving McNicholas the game time he's been craving, with Parkinson telling the club's website: "It's the right time for Luke to go out and play.
"He's trained really well with us and had a few first-team games for us last season. We feel that for his development, he is ready to go and play and I'm sure he will be a very good signing for Rochdale."
