Sanditon Season 3 premiered on PBS last year, giving Jane Austen heroine Charlotte Heywood ( Rose Williams ) her long-awaited happily ever after. However, the enchanting Masterpiece on PBS series still boasts legions of enthusiastic fans desperate for more stories set in the world of Sanditon . When Decider caught up with Masterpiece executive producer Susanne Simpson today at Summer 2024 TCA for an in-depth interview about the PBS franchise, yes, we asked her about the possibility of more Sanditon .

Sure Charlotte Heywood and Mr. Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) were last seen in the throes of wedded bliss, but does that preclude more drama for the couple? What happens to the other characters in their orbit? Could there be a Sanditon Season 4 or even a spin-off about the likes of Augusta (Eloise Webb) or new characters?

“Never say never,” Simpson said, echoing what Sanditon producer Belinda Campbell also told Decider in 2023 .

However, that’s not necessarily a sign for fans to start rejoicing since Simpson hastily added,”But nothing’s in the planning stages for that.”

Right now, Simpson is instead focused on a slate of new and returning programs for Fall 2024 and early 2025. Simpson confirmed during Masterpiece’ s panel for Moonflower Murders that All Creatures Great and Small and Miss Scarlett would be returning in 2025 for their respective fifth seasons and that Grantchester Season 10 will be arriving next summer.

Simpson also teased a new original series called Miss Austen , starring Keeley Hawes and Rose Leslie. The series delves into the close knit relationship between Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra while also attempting to solve a literary mystery.

“If you read a lot of Jane Austen or read a lot about Jane, there’s always been this question about why did Cassandra burn Jane’s letters?” Simpson said. “And the author of the book, Miss Austen , Gill Hornby, decided she was going to try and answer that question.”

“It’s just, I think, a beautiful way to look at who Jane Austen was.”

Speaking of Jane Austen works being permanently removed from the record, there’s been recent chatter in the Sanditon fandom that Masterpiece and their UK partners might be holding out on never before seen deleted scenes. When Decider asked Simpson about potential deleted scenes, she expressed her honest confusion. According to her, fans have seen everything Masterpiece commission for the series.

“I’m not aware of any deleted scenes,” Simpson said. “When we commissioned Sanditon 2 and 3, the show was made to our length.”

“I’m not aware of any deleted scenes for Seasons 2 or 3.”

If Sanditon fans are looking to PBS for more glimpses at their favorite Sanditon actors and characters, they may want to tune into Moonflower Murders on Masterpiece Mystery on September 15. Decider can confirm that the Magpie Murders sequel series features Sanditon alums Kate Ashfield and Liam Garrigan in key roles.
