RISE Coordinator, Charlene Rine, says there has been an uptick in overdoses in the area, which is what inspired this training.
Rine will be the instructor and says knowing how to administer Narcan is just as important as knowing how to do CPR or other lifesaving measures in an emergency.
“The important thing to remember is Narcan is for opioids, but there are a lot of drugs that aren’t opioids that are laced with opioids fentanyl. So, if you give someone Narcan and it’s not an opioid, it’s not going to hurt them. You know, overdoses can happen anywhere. They can happen at restaurants, at the grocery store, the gas stations, at the ballpark. It’s always best to be prepared.”

Rine says she hopes participants learn the importance of Narcan during the training.
“Every life is important. If you have the ability to save someone’s life, I hope that you’ll do it,” Rine said.
Kimberli Green, Marshall County FRN executive director, says they work hard to fill the gaps they see within the community.
Greene agreed that this training is vital for community members to take advantage of, especially with the uptick in overdoses in the area.
“Every life is important, and you never know when you’re going to be in a situation where you may need to use and administer Narcan. So, the knowledge of having it and being able to administer it, I think, is very important.”
