Billionaire and technology entrepreneur Elon Musk offered high praise for Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) after becoming former President Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate, calling him “assassination insurance” for the Republican candidate.

Musk’s comment was in reference to how Trump was almost assassinated during a rally on Saturday, just days before the Republican National Convention. After Trump announced that Vance would be his vice presidential candidate, Musk gave his congratulations to Vance on X, describing him as an “excellent decision” by Trump.

“Trump Vance,” Musk wrote. “Resounds with victory.”

Musk also responded to a post on X praising Trump’s vice presidential choice, which noted that Trump’s opponents “will not want to leave Vance in charge,” prompting Musk to respond with “assassination insurance.”

The billionaire has since endorsed Trump in his 2024 bid for the White House shortly after Trump barely survived his assassination attempt on Saturday. The endorsement was made shortly after he reportedly made a “sizable” donation to the America PAC , which supports Trump.

Earlier this year, Musk indicated he could give an endorsement in the 2024 race “in the final stretch.” Since purchasing Twitter and rebranding it as X, the billionaire has been more vocal with his criticism of the Biden administration.

In addition to praising Vance, Musk has also advocated that former 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy have a role in a potential second Trump administration. Ramaswamy was rumored at one point to be on Trump’s shortlist for possible vice presidential candidates.

Vance’s selection as Trump’s running mate ends months of speculation over who the former president would pick for the spot. Other names who were rumored for consideration were Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Govs. Doug Burgum (R-ND) and Glenn Youngkin (R-VA).
