New Jersey American Water issued mandatory water restrictions for parts of Monmouth and Ocean counties due to a broken water valve. The company is asking customers to limit nonessential water usage while New Jersey is experiencing intense heat. About 40 municipalities are impacted by the restrictions. Repairs on the broken valve started Sunday afternoon at the Neptune water plant. “It’s definitely upsetting for people. Especially because you use your pool to cool down and it’s really hot. It’s been in the 90s,” said Jasmin Elalfy. New Jersey American Water has asked customers not to water lawns, wash cars or fill pools. They are to also use water wisely indoors until further notice. “It’s been so hot. I feel like the humidity has been so bad. I feel like we can’t catch a break. I’ve never had a summer this hot and I’ve lived here my entire life,” Brianna Mignano. The mandatory outdoor water restriction applies to New Jersey American Water customers in the following communities: Aberdeen, Allenhurst, Asbury Park City, Atlantic Highlands, Avon, Bay Head, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Colts Neck Township, Deal, Eatontown, Elberon, Fair Haven, Highlands, Holmdel Township, Interlaken, Keansburg, Lake Como, Little Silver, Loch Arbor Village, Long Branch City, Matawan, Middletown Township, Monmouth Beach, Neptune City, Neptune Township (incl. Ocean Grove), Ocean Township, Oceanport, Red Bank, Rumson, Sea Bright, Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Township, Tinton Falls, Union Beach, Wanamassa and West Long Branch. Company officials expect the repairs to be completed by Tuesday afternoon.
