Public health agencies are investigating cases of illness after dozens of victims consumed Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, infused cones and gummies.

Investigators say at least 58 people, including three Georgians, have reported getting sick after consuming these "edibles." Of those cases, 30 have been hospitalized and one person has died, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).

Reports have come from 27 states and investigators are attempting to identify other potential cases.

Parent company Prophet Premium Blends released a statement addressing the investigation on the Diamond Shruumz website.

"At Prophet Premium Blends, we prioritize the health and safety of our consumers above all else," Prophet Premium Blends said. "...it is crucial that all of our consumers refrain from ingesting (Diamond Shruumz) while we, alongside the FDA, continue our investigation as to what is the cause of the serious adverse effects."

Diamond Shruumz products may contain ingredients including Muscimol, a chemical often found in mushrooms. The FDA says this chemical could be a potential cause of the victims' illnesses, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The DPH said the products may also contain harmful and undisclosed ingredients that can cause serious illness when eaten.

Victims have reported symptoms such as hallucinations, uncontrolled movements, abnormal heart rates, high or low blood pressure, flushed skin, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain after consuming Diamond Shruumz products.

Other severe effects have been reported including seizures, decreased or loss of consciousness, confusion and respiratory failure.

All Diamond Shruumz products were recalled in late June, but some may still be available for purchase, the DPH said. Products are sold online, at consumable hemp retailers, and tobacco and vape shops.

"Retailers should remove products from their shelves and consumers should discard any products that have been purchased," the DPH said.

Anyone who has consumed Diamond Shruumz products and is experiencing symptoms should seek immediate medical attention or contact the Georgia Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Healthcare providers are also urged to report illnesses to the Georgia Poison Center.
