In the days after the ESPY Awards, fans noticed that Venus Williams appeared to snub Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

When Harry was announced the winner of the Pat Tillman Award at the show, many of those in attendance stood up and clapped to congratulate him. However, Williams, sitting next to the prince, did not stand up or clap once his name was called as the award winner.

Instead, she stayed seated throughout the prince's walk to the stage. When cameras panned to Williams during Harry's speech, she appeared unimpressed by his words, perhaps as a way to signal her displeasure at ESPN's choice to give the prince the award.

The 39-year-old was recognized for his work regarding the Invictus Games. He established the foundation as a way to support injured and sick servicemen and women.

“I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games Foundation a reality," he said after receiving the award . “This award belongs to them, not to me.”

ESPN also reiterated that Harry received the award with the backing of the Tillman Foundation. More specifically, the award was in reference to the work the foundation had done in the last 10 years, by "promoting healing through the power of sport for military service members and veterans around the word," per The Hollywood Reporter .

"While we understand not everyone will agree with all honorees selected for any award, The Invictus Games Foundation does incredible work and ESPN believes this is a cause worth celebrating."

It wasn't only Williams who appeared to be unhappy with ESPN's decision to give the award to the prince. Many on social media believed the award was falsely given to the Duke, with one poster writing: "If Venus didn’t agree with Harry getting the award that was her right not to clap."

Along with Williams, Tillman's mother, Mary, also explained why she felt the prince was undeserving of the award. Mainly, Mary pointed to the fact that Harry had immense wealth and resources available to him compared to previous winners of the award.

"There are recipients that are far more fitting. There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans," she said, per The Daily Mail.

"These individuals do not have the money, resources, connections or privilege that Prince Harry has. I feel that those types of individuals should be recognized."

It is worth noting Williams' younger sister, Serena, is close friends with Harry and Markle, with the two often sending correspondents to one another. Serena also was the host of the ESPYs and threw shade at Harrison Butker for his comments about women .
