Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe Undergoing Major Renovations

The Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe is undergoing extensive renovations, according to the Nevada Independent. General Manager Jason Sides informed gaming regulators that every part of the property will see some form of improvement. The initial phase of the redevelopment has begun on the 539-room hotel and 25,000-square-foot casino, with one of the resort’s two towers currently offline for upgrades. The first renovated rooms are expected to be available by October.

Sides announced that the project involves significant capital investment, though no cost estimate was provided. He also revealed plans to open a Salt Grass Steakhouse by fall, and a Mastro's Steak House will also be added to the property.

The property, now under its fifth name since opening in the 1960s, was acquired last year by Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s Fertitta Entertainment. The renovations are projected to be completed by 2025.

The Nevada Independent reports that South Lake Tahoe's gaming revenue is showing signs of recovery. The market’s gaming revenue through May is 5.6 percent ahead of the first five months of 2023.

Additionally, the Golden Nugget's renovations are part of a broader trend of non-gaming investments in the Tahoe area, including the new $80 million Tahoe Blue Event Center and the Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe.
