Shannen Doherty’s Co-Stars React to the Star’s Sad Death: Everything Her Friends and Family Have Said

It has been a sad weekend for fans of the hit teen drama, Beverly Hills, 90210 , as the show’s lead star, Shannen Doherty , died at the young age of 53. The actress was best known for her work on the 1990 series, as well as Charmed and the film Heathers .

Doherty died on July 13, 2024, after a long, grueling battle with breast cancer. She first announced her diagnosis in 2015, but shared that she had gone into remission in 2017. In 2020, Doherty announced the breast cancer had returned and that it was stage four.

The actress shared the news in 2020, stating, “ I'd rather people hear it from me . I don't want it to be twisted. I don't want it to be a court document. I want it to be real and authentic, and I want to control the narrative.”

Everything Shannen Doherty’s ‘90210’ co-stars and friends have shared about her death

Over the past few days, friends and co-stars of Doherty’s have shared their condolences and love for the star. Jennie Garth , who portrayed Doherty’s best friend, Kelly, on Beverly Hills, 90210 , shared a sweet message about “one of the strongest people.”

“ I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known,” Garth shared via Instagram. “Our connection was real and honest. We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration.” Garth went on to send her condolences to Doherty’s family and her dog, Bowie.

Tori Spelling , another 90210 alum, shared a message on her Instagram as well. “ I don’t have outward words yet… but WE knew and that’s what matters,” Spelling wrote on her story.

Doherty’s on-screen brother, Jason Priestley , shared his own message on social media. “ Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”

The Beverly Hills, 90210 , family has lost a member before, Luke Perry , who portrayed Dylan McKay. His daughter, Sophie, shared her own tribute for the actress, an old photo of Doherty and her father , Perry, with a white heart.

While news of tension between Doherty and her co-star, Alyssa Milano , is no secret, Milano shared her own message in the wake of Doherty’s passing. “ It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano shared in a statement. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”

Rose McGowan , who filled Doherty’s shoes after her departure in season 3 of Charmed , posted a compilation video of Doherty over the years, along with a sweet message. “ Shannen Doherty had the heart of a lion …I met her in the 90s and was awed. Getting to really know her later in life, a beautiful gift. This woman fought to live.”

Love and condolences poured in from more co-stars, including Brian Krause , Ted King and Carol Potter . Actress Olivia Munn shared her own tribute as someone who was also diagnosed with breast cancer. She wrote, “ I am absolutely heartbroken over the passing of Shannen Doherty…We bonded through a shared battle and a desire to help other women.” Munn ended her message with, “Fly so high, my friend. 💔💔💔💔”
