Police in Kenya have arrested a suspected " serial killer " following the discovery of several bodies packed in plastic bags from a quarry in the capital city of Nairobi.
Knewz.com has learned that the man has confessed to the murders of 42 women, including his wife.
The man has been identified as 33-year-old Collins Jomaisi Khalusha and was arrested earlier on Monday, July 15.
It has been reported that the suspected serial killer was watching the Euro Cup finals at a bar at the time of his arrest.
Khalusha is a resident of the Mukuru neighborhood in Nairobi, close to the quarry where he allegedly dumped the bodies of his victims .
Police carried out a thorough search of his home, which revealed several mobile phones , identity cards, a laptop, industrial rubber gloves, rolls of sellotape, a dozen nylon sacks similar to the ones in which the bodies were found in the quarry, and a machete that is believed to have been used to dismember the victims.
In addition, the police found items of female clothing at his residence.
The police have arrested another individual in addition to Khalusha, who was found in possession of a phone belonging to one of the victims. He will be treated either as a fellow suspect or as an accomplice, per the police.
Mohamed Amin, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations of Kenya, stated that the suspected serial killer confessed to "having lured, killed, and disposed of 42 female bodies at the dumping site [the quarry]" upon interrogation.
Amin added that per Khalusha's statement, the first murder was that of his wife in 2022, while the latest one was as recent as Thursday, July 11.
The police have revealed that the victims found so far are all aged between 18 and 30, and were murdered in the same way.
A man named Emmanuel Ogongo said that he recognized one of the bodies discovered from the Mukuru quarry as that of his sister who went missing on June 28. Only the torso of the woman has been found in the current search.
While the acting head of police, Douglas Kanja Kirocho, stated that a total of nine bodies have been found at the quarry so far, in various stages of decay, locals reported that the actual number is quite higher.
Joseph Waweru, a volunteer involved in retrieving the bodies, said in a statement that he has counted 16 bodies so far, all of them dismembered .
Directorate of Criminal Investigations chief Amin commented that it is "crystallising that we are dealing with a serial killer."
"... A psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life, who has no respect and dignity," he was quoted as saying by BBC News .
Amin also urged families "who believe that their beloved ones may have fallen prey to these macabre murders" to report to the police.
It was reported that the bodies found in the quarry gave rise to rumors that they were linked to alleged abductions of young protesters by security forces during recent protests in Kenya.
However, the investigation has revealed nothing to indicate a connection between the bodies and the ongoing Finance Bill protests, per a report from Reuters .
Given that the quarry is located in close proximity to the police station, possible police involvement in the killings is also being investigated.
