On the Swiss Riviera, a Sophisticated Villa Is Listed for $30 Million

On the outskirts of the jazz-soaked lakeside resort town of Montreux, about two hours by car from Zermatt, an immaculately updated 1930s villa set on a high rampart above Lake Geneva, now available with an asking price of 27 million Swiss francs (roughly $30 million), is actually but a few steps from a railway station that puts the property just a 35-minute ride from the center of Lausanne.
The not-quite 6,000-square-foot residence, which shares a gated entry with a neighboring property and underwent a comprehensive overhaul completed in 2022, presides over 1.7 landscaped acres with open views over Lake Geneva toward the Dents du Midi mountain range in the Chablais Alps. Erin Boisson Aries of Douglas Elliman shares the listing with Basile Glauser of Milestone Properties.
The dining room windows frame majestic lake and mountain views.
The trio of rooms that span the back of the house, with parquet flooring, high ceilings, and postcard-perfect lake and mountain views, include a spacious central living room with a carved marble fireplace; a TV lounge with a floral mural and a built-in media center painted cobalt blue; and an ample dining room with an aubergine Venetian glass chandelier. The sleek, Brazilian marble and exotic wood kitchen is configured around a huge island with an integrated snack bar, equipped with premium appliances, including a La Cornue range, and complemented by a fully equipped back kitchen.
Each of the five ensuite bedrooms on the upper floor, including the primary suite, has a unique design and a distinctive attached bathroom. Three of the bedrooms face the view. The finished subterranean level is devoted to a variety of recreational, leisure and hedonistic pursuits. There’s a fitness room with a sauna, a playfully appointed games lounge with a DJ set up, and a climate-controlled wine cellar.
A portico outside the main living room overlooks an emerald sweep of lawn that stretches out to a waist-high, curved stone wall. On one side of the house, just outside the kitchen, a minimalist outdoor dining pavilion features a chic combination of stone and slatted wood walls. A discreet set of steps curves down to a plateau notched into the hillside with a heated swimming pool and a Greece-inspired open-air pool house with changing rooms, a pantry kitchen and a built-in dining banquette for poolside snacks and beverages.
The home’s three floors are accessible by stairs as well as an elevator, and the recent renovations included the installation of a geothermal heat pump, integrated heating and cooling, a water softener, and triple-glazed windows. There’s an existing three-car detached garage, and listing details indicate the amount of buildable land that would allow for a six-car garage and a caretaker’s house.
