The Gunners are believed to be still in talks with the Serie A club over a potential deal, yet it's widely anticipated the 22-year-old will join the Emirates Stadium outfit this summer. Liverpool was interested in the player, but he's heading to north London.
Calafiori, who played a pivotal role in Bologna's unexpected Champions League qualification last season, is ready to progress his career, much like his former club teammate Joshua Zirkzee who has transferred to Manchester United.
Capable of playing as a left-back or centre-back, Calafiori is currently on holiday after a standout performance for Italy at Euro 2024. The former FC Basel defender was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing Italy team whose European Championship defence ended with a 2-0 loss to Switzerland in the last 16.
Upon his return from holiday, it's expected that Calafiori will head to London and the deal will be expedited so the former Roma defender can link up with Mikel Arteta and his new Arsenal colleagues.
Arsenal is set to embark on a USA tour on July 21 and hopes he can participate in pre-season friendlies against AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
Liverpool.com says: It's only a matter of time before Riccardo Calafiori joins Arsenal. It's a shame he's not heading to Merseyside, as he would've been a good option for Arne Slot at center-back and left-back. Let's hope the Reds act in the transfer market soon!
