Fox News host Laura Ingraham said she was overcome with grief upon learning that former President Donald Trump had been shot.

A would-be assassin shot Trump in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. One rally-goer was killed and two others were wounded. The shooter was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by the Secret Service. He was a registered Republican who once gave $15 to a Democratic fundraising platform. His motive remains unclear at this point.

Eric Trump joined Monday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he claimed “they” tried to kill his father.

“They have done everything to strip him of his wealth and of his fame,” he said. “They tried to break up our family. They’ve done everything possible to try and get him and kill him. And they literally tried to kill him this week. And despite that, he’s undeterred, he’s unrelenting, he loves this country.”

“Well, I got teared up,” Ingraham told him. “And I started crying when I heard the news. I was in the car and the radio was on. And I was listening It was live. When I heard that stop, and I said to my son, I think President Trump was shot. And I was bawling. What was your reaction before you knew that he was ok?”

“I’ve done a lot of shooting in my life,” he replied. “It’s kind of my hobby and, you know, I know very, very well, and I heard those gunshots and I knew it was bad.”

He went on to note that the former president turned his head the moment before the shot grazed his father’s ear. Eric Trump called it “divine intervention.”
