SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. ( WETM ) — More than 28,000 NYSEG customers across Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties lost power on Monday evening during severe storms.

According to the NYSEG outage list, 14,308 customers in Chemung County, 9,610 in Steuben County, and 5,035 in Schuyler County were without power at about 7:45 p.m. on July 15. Towns and cities with more than 1,000 customers that lost power include Elmira, Southport, Hector, Corning, and Catlin.

NYSEG’s outage map shows dozens of smaller outages and some larger ones that impact hundreds of customers, so estimated power restoration times vary in different parts of the same municipalities. NYSEG estimates that power will be back between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. for most of the outages across the Southern Tier, but crews don’t have estimated restoration times for some of the outages, and these times are subject to change.

You can see when power is expected back where you live by going to NYSEG’s outage map, zooming in on your area, and clicking on the dot closest to your home.
