PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Oregon has almost 80 people at the Republican National Convention, and though the event is stationed in Wisconsin this year, KOIN 6 News had a chance to hear from those in attendance.

Those there say security is really tight with armed police officers present on their bus from the hotel to the arena, where there was a large police presence inside. They also said the lines to get inside took a while with security checks and special credentials for each day needed.

Once inside, Oregon and Washington pledged all of their delegates to former President Donald Trump, who was the target of an assassination attempt over the weekend during a Pennsylvania rally.

“Oregon is an outdoor-lover’s paradise, with every geographical terrain on the planet within out border,” said Tracy Honl, the RNC national committeewoman for Oregon. “Madame Secretary, the great state of Oregon proudly casts our 31 votes for President Donald J. Trump.”

The Oregon delegates told KOIN 6 News they like the pick of senator J.D.. Vance for Trump’s vice presidential running mate, and like that he’s only 39 years old and not a life-long politician.

The most recent Oregon party registration shows there are almost three quarters of a million registered Republicans in the state and nearly a million registered Democrats. There are also more than a million non-affiliated voters.
