Tech billionaire Elon Musk , the richest person in the world, is donating to a political action committee working to put Donald Trump back in the White House, according to reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal .

Musk ― who oversees SpaceX, Tesla, and X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter ― has committed to donating $45 million a month to America PAC, a pro-Trump fundraising group established in May, people familiar with the matter told the Journal.

The news comes days after Musk formally endorsed Trump for president.

Bloomberg was the first to report on Musk donating to America PAC on Friday, saying it was an unknown but “sizable” amount.

A donation from Musk could make a massive difference in a tight race, though Trump already outpaces President Joe Biden in fundraising.

Contacts for Tesla, Trump and America PAC did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s requests for comment on Bloomberg’s report. The PAC is next legally required to disclose its donor list on July 15.

Musk said as recently as March that he wouldn’t be giving money to presidential candidates. But there have been indications in recent months that the tech billionaire has cozied up to the GOP nominee.

In May, the Journal reported that Trump and Musk were discussing a possible White House advisory role for Musk if the former president regains office in November. People familiar with the talks said formal input on border security and the economy were on the table.

Also in May, Musk confirmed that X would host a live town hall-style event with Trump, though it hasn’t happened yet and no known date has been scheduled.

The nascent America PAC was the subject of a New York Times story last month exploring the group’s activities, which the report described as “fairly secretive.” The PAC’s fundraising efforts so far have been focused on pushing Trump voters to vote early or by absentee ballot, despite the former president’s long history of deriding those voting methods as riddled with fraud.
