CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A professional boxer from Cheatham County announced his retirement Monday evening due to a chronic illness.

Ty “Short Fuse” Tomlin, who wrote in an Instagram post that it had been a year since his last fight, announced his official retirement from the sport Monday, July 15. Tomlin shared he had been diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which affected his ability to think, his vision, his physicality and more.

Johns Hopkins describes the condition as a blood circulation disorder that results in a heart rate increase when getting up from sitting or lying down. Symptoms can include lightheadedness, headaches, blurry vision and more.

“I thought a diagnosis might lead to treatment so I could get back in the ring but unfortunately doctors have advised against me ever fighting again,” Tomlin wrote. “This was extremely hard to hear as boxing has been my entire life since I was a kid.”

According to his Instagram profile, Tomlin has 14 wins and only two losses with nine knockouts to his name.

“I am so fortunate to have great opportunities in front of me for ‘life after boxing’ and I will pursue them with the same intensity that I fought with,” Tomlin wrote. “I have no regrets, I would spill the blood, sweat, and tears again if given the chance.”
