Shannen Doherty made it a point to leave behind direct and specific instructions for what her loved ones should do after her death. The Charmed actress's publicist confirmed on Sunday, July 14 that Shannen had passed away on Saturday after a long battle with cancer. She was 53.

Now, a moment from her Let's Be Clear podcast is making the rounds since the 90210 star took the opportunity to open up about what she wanted in terms of her funeral plans and burial arrangements in the event she was to pass away during an episode that aired in January.

"I want [my remains] to be mixed with my dog, and I want it to be mixed with my dad. I do not want to be buried and not cremated," Shannen shared at the time. She also said that she wanted that blend to be spread in Malibu, California, where she spent "precious time" with her father, John Thomas Doherty, who died in 2010 at the age of 66 after health complications.

She also said she wanted her loved ones to use those mixed remains as fertilizer and "grow them into a tree."

In the episode, the actress also opened up about who she does not want to attend her funeral, saying she wanted it to be more private. "There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there. I don’t want them there because their reasons for showing up aren’t necessarily the best reasons," she said. "Like, they don’t really like me and, you know, they have their reasons and good for them, but they don’t actually really like me enough to show up to my funeral."

"'[They’ll show up] because it’s the politically correct thing to do, and they don’t want to look bad, so I kinda want to take the pressure off them and I want my funeral to be like a love fest," she added. "I don’t want people to be crying or people to privately be like, "Thank God that b----- is dead now."

Shannen's publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed the actress' death with a statement, adding that she was surrounded by her loved ones. "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease," Leslie said in a statement to People. "The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."

Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. After going into remission, she shared two years later that the cancer had returned. "It's going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I'm stage 4. So my cancer came back, and that's why I'm here," she said on Good Morning America at the time. "I don't think I've processed it. It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways."

She announced that her cancer had spread to her brain in an Instagram post in 2023 that showed her undergoing radiation therapy, and in April it was reported that she was " giving away " her belongings. Since the news broke, her former costars and famous friends have been flooding social media with messages honoring Shannen and her impact on their lives.
