WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The common sentiment among officials and voters at the Sedgwick County Election Office is that you need to get out there and vote. Election Commissioner Laura Rainwater calls the process quick, easy, and important.

“We want to get as many people who are eligible to vote to vote … It really takes less than five minutes to come in and get registered,” she said.

Whether you plan on registering in person, by mail or online, the deadline is closing in.

In Sedgwick County, there are 85,296 Democrats, 134,227 Republicans, and 112,148 unaffiliated registered voters.

“We’re averaging about two to three hundered voter registrations a day. Which is a litle higher than normal. The majority are corrections, name changes, address changes … Our voter registration was at 336,786,” Rainwater said.

Since June 1, that number counts and additional 2,000 new voters.

    Are you registered to vote?

Debra Robinson has been a registered voter since she turned 18. Now 60, she brought her granddaughter to complete her own registration.

“This stuff changes your life; it really does, and I want them to see that,” Robinson said. “It’s important that she starts the process and votes and makes the changes. Because that’s what it does, if you want the changes, you gotta vote.”

According to them, everything boils down to one thing.

“Every vote really does count, this one is really big, bigger than what 2020 was. There’s a lot going on,” Robinson said. “There’s nothing more important in this country than casting a vote in this country. You have a voice. Use it.”

Primary Registrations will be open until Tuesday, July 16 at 5 p.m. If you register by mail or through the DMV, as long as it’s postmarked by July 16, your registration will be counted.

The primary election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
