Fox News Democrat Harold Ford Fawns Over Trump at RNC: ‘He’s a Different Guy Than He Was 52 Hours Ago… I Couldn’t Be Prouder for Him’

Fox News contributor Harold Ford claimed that Saturday’s shooting has fundamentally changed former President Donald Trump . Ford said he could tell because Trump “looked a little different.”

Trump was nearly assassinated on Saturday in Pennsylvania during a rally. A gunman struck him in the ear, killed one attendee, and wounded two others. The shooter was immediately killed by Secret Service agents.

Some pundits have speculated that the near-death experience will change Trump.

On Monday, the former president attended the opening night of the Republican National Convention, which nominated him as its presidential nominee for the third straight election hours earlier. Wearing a bandage on his right ear, he entered the arena in Milwaukee to uproarious applause as Lee Greenwood sang “God Bless the U.S.A.” As Trump stood in the VIP box, the crowd chanted, “Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!” It was a nod to Trump’s actions shortly after getting shot, when he held up a fist and told the crowd, “Fight.”

During Fox News’ coverage, Ford offered effusive praise of the former president:

You know, 52 hours ago the president was shot. And I remember where I was with my kids in my kitchen watching. I’m not a supporter of the president’s politics. I know him personally. I like him. But you couldn’t help but feel a rush of patriotism and pride and gratitude watching him walk in that hallway and walking to this floor.

He’s a different guy than he was 52 hours ago. He looked a little different. He didn’t look weak. He just looked a little different. And I couldn’t have been prouder for him.

We’ll now have to get on to a race where’ll talk about the differences between the parties, talk about the differences between the vice presidential candidates. But this moment here is one that I think all of us want to linger a little bit as we watch the 45th president of the United States walk into this Republican hall tonight.

As a Democrat, Ford has been quick to hail Trump. In January he lauded Trump’s “remarkable” victory speech after winning the Iowa caucuses. He has also praised the former president’s political acumen. As a co-host of The Five , Ford often avoids confrontation with his conservative co-host.
